Fishing communities such as 'majhi' and 'danuwar' in Nepal are on the verge of a crisis as the new trend of using toxic chemicals like indosyphan to kill fish has emerged of late. These chemicals are being used in Karra, Rapti, Bakaiya, Manahari and Bhaise rivers in the country. Chief of Hetauda hospital Girish Upadhaya said that if such fish are consumed, the locals are sure to face a toxic backlash. Head of district veterinary office Khadga Singh has warned that the entire ecosystem of the region is at risk from the chemicals.
